As you know, Google announced some major changes to Google Search in May 2024. One of the big ones were the introduction of AI Overviews – which was formerly known as Google SGE (Search Generative Experience).

With AI Overview by Google available via Search Labs, you’ll find more and more users seeing AI-generated answers directly in the Google Search Results Page.

Google states:

AI Overviews appear in Google Search results when our systems determine that generative responses can be especially helpful — for example, when you want to quickly understand information from a range of sources, including information from across the web and Google’s Knowledge Graph. No action is needed for publishers to benefit from AI Overviews.

Where is Google AI Overview available

AI Overviews is currently available in the same countries that Search Labs is available in. You can find the full list of countries here.

AI Overviews is currently available in the following languages:

  • English
  • Hindi
  • Indonesian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Spanish (Latin America)

While for some European countries, AI Overviews is not live yet, we can expect that Google will – sooner or later – roll out AI Overview globally.

What is the impact of AI Overview

The short answer: It remains to be seen.

Google vaguely mentioned that links in AIO get higher click-through rates (CTRs), Google has remained evasive when directly asked about this.
